The Oakville Freshman basketball squad has had a fun, yet challenging month of January. The Tigers continue to get better, learning how to bring the same intensity every night, and recognize that intensity makes all of the difference in a game.
The team started out the new year 2 and 1 after a season defining win against a very good Marquette team, who was 5 and 2 at the time. That game was won by two points on a last second heave by Brad Hartmann–a shot that the team will never forget.
Since, the boys have struggled to win games but gain experience every time they step onto the hardwood. Losing a heart breaker to a hot shooting Mehlville team, and another heart breaker to Lindbergh Flyers on our home court have left the boys determined to end the season on a high note.
Playing host to the Freshman tournament at our place, the team started the tournament out by losing a very close game to Ladue–a great game! Then followed up with a very good team win against Lutheran South, securing a spot in the 5th and 6th place game against Mehlville. Looking forward to the opportunity for revenge against our conference foe – the results was a tough loss.
The Tigers are now at 7 and 10 on the year. The record may not show it, but each player continues to improve and look forward to the weeks ahead to do some damage. The freshmen team has a great group of guys that are continuing to work hard and grow together as a team, despite a rough patch of games.
