Multiple Teams · Cheer Showcase is a Huge Success

[January 29, 2016]  Last night, the Oakville Cheerleaders hosted over 200 fans at the 1st ever Competition Preview Night – The purpose of the night was to celebrate the major accomplishments each cheer team has made throughout the year. As spirit athletes, the cheerleaders typically have to share the spotlight with the football, basketball and soccer athletes. The Competition Preview night gave the girls an opportunity to shine in their own spotlight.

As the season winds down in February, the cheer teams are heading to competition this  year! They will attend;

  • JAM Fest! (STL, MO) = Feb. 27th
  • MCDA Competition: (Ozark High School) = March 5th

To say Varsity Cheer has been putting in overtime is an understatement! While still remaining committed to OHS athletics, the varsity cheer program has been working tirelessly to put together a cheer routine worthy of competition. The girls have learned elite stunts, and worked on an impressive pyramid sequence. Throughout the process they have learned the importance of teamwork and the comittment and passion required to perform at the next level. They have all pushed themselves outside of their comfort zone to better their overall cheer ability. Though they performed four routines last night, they ended the night with their competition routine. Check out all of their performances on the Oakville Varsity Cheer Youtube channel-

JV Cheerleaders dazzled the crowd their their energetic entrance and exit, sharp motions, and great intonation in the cheer. They have shown that they are able to pay attention to detail and become ready for performances at the varsity level. This basketball season, they have begun to transition from coach created routines, to cheerleader created routines. The routine they performed last night was choreographed by two JV Cheerleaders. Freshman Cheerleaders, though small in numbers, were mighty in force! They have worked extremely hard this year to improve their stunting abilities. This summer at our NCA camp, the Freshman Cheerleaders were still working on an extension stunt, a fairly basic skill. We are proud to announce that the Freshman Cheerleaders have now moved on to a solid liberty (one legged extension stunt), as well as a full basket (this means the flyer makes a full twist in the air as she’s thrown). They have come a very long way throughout their season and should be proud of their accomplishments! Freshman performance-

The Jr. Tigers had great performances! Our Jr. Tiger Program currently has great numbers, and it is the hope of the OHS Cheer coaching staff that we keep the Jr. Tigers in the program throughout their future high school experience. Seeing the dedication, excitement, and great performances all three levels the Jr. Tigers offered, the OHS Cheer program will be in great hands for many years to come!

OHS Cheer would like to thank all of those who attended the event. There were over 200 people in the stands! It is so heartwarming to see the community turn out to support the cheerleaders. The preview night gave cheerleaders and spectators a chance to see all of the hard work the girls have put in throughout their seasons and spotlight what it really means to be an OHS Cheerleader. The seniors were able to take their moment and share a few of their favorite memories about the program, and the audience was able to give comments about the program as a whole. Every day is a good day at OHS, but last night, it was a really great day to be an Oakville Cheerleader.
