Football Team gets in Half a Season Despite COVID
The beginning of the 2020 football season looked bleak, with news of high school sports not looking like a possibility for football in particular. But the Tigers kept their nose to the grindstone and worked on the turf and in the weight room and by mid October, football was back under the lights.
Oakville was able to stay healthy and COVID free for four remaining games on the schedule; Mehlville, Marquette, Northwest, and Districts at Farmington. As schools tried to continue to play and provide opportunities for their athletes to compete, the Tigers played a last bonus game against Parkway South in November and was scheduled to play Webster until COVID shut them down.
While the scoreboard didn’t show their success, #restoretheroar has begun! As the season concluded Oakville Football was 62 players strong and overall free of major injury. We are excited about the future as we return 50 of our current players to next year’s squad. We are sad to see the 18 seniors graduate but we are also very proud of the efforts they gave this season. To close the year, we had many Tigers selected to the Suburban Orange Division All-Conference Team. We are extremely proud of the fact so many of our players were able to make this team. Big things are coming in the future…tune in to 2021, it’s going to be a fun ride.
